The Lead Engine
The system that puts your business in front of the right people and turns that attention into leads you can actually follow up with. Three steps: Target, Attract, Capture.
Every business needs a steady flow of the right leads. Not just traffic, not just followers, not just enquiries from people who'll never buy — but qualified leads who match your ideal customer and are ready to have a conversation.
The Lead Engine is the system that produces those leads, reliably and predictably. It's the first of three engines in the Real Business Engine framework, and it's usually the first one we build when a business is stuck — because without leads, the Sales Engine and Loyalty Engine have nothing to work with.
Target
Know exactly who you're for. Most businesses don't have a lead problem — they have a targeting problem. They're trying to serve everyone, which means their marketing speaks to no one in particular. The Target step is about defining your ideal customer with enough specificity that everything downstream — your messaging, your channels, your offers — becomes obvious. When you know exactly who you're for, you stop wasting money reaching people who were never going to buy.
Attract
Get in front of the right people. Once you know who you're for, the Attract step is about being visible where those people already are. This isn't about being on every platform — it's about being in the right place with the right message. For most UK businesses, this means one or two channels done well, not five done badly. The test is simple: are the right people seeing you, and are they seeing something that makes them want to know more?
Capture
Turn attention into a real lead. Attention without capture is just vanity. The Capture step is where you convert a visitor, a reader, a follower into a name and a way to reach them. This might be a form, a booking link, a download, or a direct conversation — but it has to be intentional. If someone is interested and there's no clear next step, they leave and you've lost them. Capture is the difference between marketing and lead generation.
Signs your Lead Engine is broken
- Inconsistent lead flow — feast or famine, with no way to predict what next month looks like.
- Leads that aren't qualified — lots of enquiries, but most go nowhere because they're not the right fit.
- Spending on marketing with no way to measure what's actually producing leads.
- No clear next step for website visitors — people arrive, look around, and leave without leaving a trace.
How we build it
We don't start with tools or channels. We start with the Target step — getting specific about who you're for. Then we look at where those people already are and build the Attract step around that. Only then do we build the Capture mechanism, because capturing leads from the wrong audience just gives you a list of people who'll never buy.
The output is a system, not a campaign. A campaign ends. An engine keeps running, producing leads month after month, with the Act-Assess-Adjust loop refining it based on real data.
